Vintage Inspired Designing

learning about fashion history

$35  1 session  (materials included)

Going back in history to inspire fashions of today.

Designing current fashions inspired from designs and trends of another decade.  As Coco Chanel once said "Without copying there would be no fashion"  Designers get a lot of ideas studying the trends and details of fashion from the past.  We will start in the roaring 20's when the silhouettes began to change rapidly and go ther to the rich overstated 80's.  Fashion is strongly influenced by what is happening in society.  Join us for a fun class that teaches us a bit about American history and influences our designers creative minds.

There is no sewing in this class.

FASHION DESIGN

$125  4 week class, (materials included)
kids, teens and adults

Where do designers get their ideas?  How do they sketch out their ideas quickly? Who is on a designers team to create a collection?   How does a designer work with her team?

First we have to understand the basic terminology like design lines, silhouettes, color and line illusion.  A designer needs to know all the different neckline, dress, sleeve, skirt .... shapes to fully understand fashion.   Then we focus in on the details to make design ideas unique.  We also focus in on the use of color, the first thing a customer sees.  How to use color to create illusions and bring attention to a designers line.

What really makes this class fun is learning the techniques of finding inspiration.  We will create a mood board, and learn how to develop a single idea into a whole collection!
